Kids yoga in the park Aug. 27 registration
Registration for Kids Yoga in the Park is under way. The free event scheduled for 10-11 a.m. on Aug. 27 is for children between the ages of 5 and 10. It will be held in the North Park located at the corner of Dunswood Road and Weatherfield Drive. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Register for fall Northville Road Rally on Oct. 11
Sign-up has begun for the fall Northville Road Rally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11. The event is open to adult residents (ages 21 and up) of our subdivision, Northville Colony, Northville Commons and Lakes of Northville. Registration is open until Oct. 1. Reminder: Subdivision speed limit is 25 mph
A reminder that the speed limit on roads within Northville Colony Estates is 25 mph. In response to complaints about drivers not obeying the speed limit and stop signs, the Northville Township Police is more actively patrolling the neighborhood to cite violators and keep the street safe for walkers and children.
Important information about sump lines
We continue to receive questions about sump lines running from our homes in the subdivision. Sump lines are the responsibility of homeowners. They must tie into the
rear yard storm drains. They are not allowed to drain into the street. They
should be checked regularly for proper operation to avoid flooding and pump
failure. Routine maintenance can help avoid future issues. For example, making sure the check valve is operating properly and routinely clearing the sump pipe all the way to the storm drain are critical. If sump line are overflowing then they need to be serviced quickly, e.g. cleaned out or replaced. The association uses:
If a rear yard storm catch basin is full of water and not draining properly
then please alert the board right away. If the obstruction can be
cleared with a water jet then the association pays. If actual repairs are
required, then all the houses connected to the rear yard storm drain line in question will share the cost.
Keep catch basins clear of debris
Please make every effort to keep the area around the rear-yard storm drains clear from debris. Do not sweep any debris or grass clippings into any drains in your yard or along the curb in the streets. Both the rear-yard drains and the street drains empty into the South Park detention basin in the rear of our subdivision and any debris swept into the drains contribute to drainage problems in the basin.
Safety tip: Light up the neighborhood
There are a number of things that we can all do to help make the neighborhood safer. The following are some tips we are encouraging you to consider:
Leave your outdoor lights on at nightime. A number of residents have changed to LED light bulbs which are not only more energy efficient and long lasting, but also brighter.
If you are going away from home for an extended period of time, you can take advantage of the Northville Township Police house check program. The Northville Township Department of Public Safety will check on your residence while you are away. You may fill out a Vacation House Check on the web site, come into the Police Department to pick up a form, or call the Dispatch Center at 248-349-9400 and the form will be completed for you. The information that you provide, will assist police in contacting you or the contact person.
